Hosts and producers of Black On Black:

Angela Christopher was born in Montreal and is of Grenadian parentage. Angela first got involved with Black on Black in 1996 during the show's special Black History Month production of Black Notes, where she produced a piece on Africville (Canada's oldest black settlement that was razed by the city of Halifax, Nova Scotia). Since then, she has volunteered as a producer, host and on-air technician for the show. Angela brings to the show a background in communications (BA bilingual co-op Professional Writing Program from l'Université de Sherbrooke, Québec) and a sincere desire to see Ottawa's black community maximize its full potential. A rather introspective yet bonafide hedonist, she can be spotted at various community events taking place in the National Capital Region.

Denise A. Moore was born in Guyana, South America and immigrated to Canada at the age of three. Graduated from Carleton University studying law and criminology. She has been a consultant in the field of Conflict Resolution since 1992. A founding member of the African-Canadian Dramatic Arts Society in 1991 whose aim is to increase awareness of African-Canadian arts in the community at large. Contributions within the Communications Industry include acting, writing, producing and the organizing of ten stage shows since 1991. She volunteers as producer, technician, interviewer, host and performer on CHUO-FM and CKCU-FM, Ottawa's community radio stations.

Kenyan-born Sarah Onyango joined the Black on Black team in 1998 as a host and producer. However, this self-confessed "news junkie" is certainly no newcomer to community media. She has written and translated articles for several Ottawa-Carleton community newspapers and has been an enthusiastic promoter of African/Caribbean community events for almost a decade, both on the radio and on television. Sarah is an alumnus of the University of Ottawa, where she obtained her B.A. Hons. in Translation, and holds a Master's in Linguistics from the Université de Franche-Comté (Besançon, France).

Also hosting are Lorrie Hoyte, Jacqueline Lawrence and Adrienne Coddett.

Background to Black On Black
In January 1993, Jacquie Stewart was a volunteer with Black History Ottawa (BHO). As part of her responsibilities, she promoted the Black History Month (BHM) events of various community organizations.
During this time Bob McCathy -- CHUO's then music director -- approached Jacquie to produce a program focussing on the black community. Jacquie developed the concept of a public affairs program targeting the black community that could also be of interest to the wider community. The program covered local, national and international issues of potential relevance to blacks. Black on Black would also feature black music , literature and history segments.
The name "Black on Black" was chosen to reflect that the program presented information of potential interest and relevance to the black community by members of the black community.
Jacquie first aired the show with the technical assistance of Mitchell Caplan, a longtime CHUO volunteer. Later, Colin Greenidge (another BHO volunteer) was recruited and became Jacquie's co-producer.
Over the years, Black on Black's team grew and diversified allowing it to explore various formats, issues and perspectives. A Black on Black spin-off project was the production of Black Notes 1996 -- special BHM programming -- which aired throughout February 1996.
Black on Black alumni include: Lisa Marshall Bedward, Sharon Farrell, Audrey Glasgow, Adrian Harewood, Eunice Charles, Anne Harewood, Carol Ogilvie, Colin Greenidge.
