The History of Dominic D'Arcy

Dominic D'Arcy is a true minstrel. The songs he writes are about people, communities, dreams, and hopes. The songs he sings whether it be folk, Irish, pop, Country, or International, are celebrations. His audience - children, adults, young and old, or senior citizens know immediately why he has found such a measure of National and International success.

A versatile performer, Dominic is at home performing solo or with a broad range of accompaniment in Concert halls, at conventions, community centres, arenas, fairs, parks, and benefits, anywhere people gather to hear and appreciate good music and entertainment. He has performed on numerous occasions on Parliament Hill during Canada's Birthday Celebrations, appeared with the Rovers, and sang for such notables as Prince Charles and the late Lady Diana, Peter Fonda, and Nana Muskouri.

Dominic grew up in Sheenboro, a tiny Irish community in Western Quebec in a musical family of six boys and six girls. He has released fifteen singles, two albums, seven cassettes, five CDs and a music video. His music has taken him to such places as England, Ireland, the North Pole, the former Soviet Union, Barbados, Bermuda, and in 1997 he performed live in China for a TV audience of 350 million people around the Orient. He was again invited back in 1999 for the "Great Wall" festival and again seen by an estimated 450 million people. He sings in six languages and speaks in four!

Nicknamed the "Singing Policeman", Dominic's mandate has evolved from a front line officer where he worked patrol, traffic, detective and youth and spent the past 20 years in Special Events. Sergeant D'Arcy has received numerous awards including the Solicitor General's Police Officer of the Year Award. However, his most prestigious was the two Governor General's awards for Community Service and the "Caring Canadian Award".

His award-winning (CANPRO) TV show "D'Arcy's Beat", which was seen for 5 years on MCTV-BBS, gave young performers a chance to shine in the limelight and prepare themselves for a future career in the entertainment industry. Dominic has always encouraged young people to share his stage, to gain experience and use it as a springboard to the next level.

Several of those young performers have gone to the big stage including:

Alanis Morissette, whom he discovered in her school at the age of 10 in a general assembly.

Polly Shannon, actor and model, starred in the movie about former Prime Minister, Pierre Trudeau called "Trudeau" and played the part of Margaret Trudeau, as well as the CTV Movie of the Week, "The Girl Next Door" and "Due South". Her other credits can be found here, on the IMdb.

Stephanie Cadman, who went to Germany to compete at the World Tap Dance competitions and came back the best in the world.

Merrideth Henderson, star of her own TV show, "The Adventures of Shirley Holmes", seen in 62 countries. She played the part of Shania in the Shania Twain movie. Merediths other credits can be found here, on the IMdb.

Breanne Lawrensen, set to hit the world stage with her new DVD.

Eight years ago, Dominic set up the "Dominic D'Arcy Talent Development Foundation". A program to assist young talent. Dominic quips that he has never arrested a youth going to practice or a performance.

He has recorded over 100 songs and many have received considerable air play around the world. Including "I'm Going Back" and "My Son". In 2000, he was given the part of the singing sheriff (Higgins), in a movie called "Kavendish", starring Dolly Parton and directed by Bryan Michael (Stroller from L.A.). The movie has yet to be completed.

Dominic D'Arcy is living proof that quitters never win and winners never quit.
