Caribou Antler (Nunavik, Quebec)
Black Marble (Chimborazo, Ecuador) White Alabaster Gray Stone (Chimborazo, Ecuador) 20" X 11" X 7.5" 2001 |
I thought it appropriate to use Ecuadorian stone for half of the moon and the base, and the antler given to me by a friend provided a perfect setting for separating the moon from the earth. Making the sphere out of two different stones was quite a challenge, as was connecting it to the antler. I wanted to allow the moon to rotate, so the screw, with the head in the middle of the sphere, is glued into the antler, but not onto the stone.
