I roughed out this sculpture before my twins were born in 2003, but only found the time to really work on it four years later, while taking a year off from teaching. This is one instance where the place of origin of the stone is part of the idea of the sculpture itself. The yellow Newfoundland stone and the black stone from Ecuador represent my ancestors and where I come from.
