Whale Tail

Serpentine (Danville, Quebec)
8" X 7" X 4.5"
2002

I find a whale's tail to be an interesting subject for a sculpture. It is a simple form, but has very subtle curves which can be a challenge to get right, and there is also an inherent playfulness in the piece which I enjoy. This very dark green stone from the Eastern Townships of Quebec is quite hard, and takes a beautiful polish which I think suits the theme.
