That's What Friends Are For
© 2001 G.J. Griffin
When I call you and ask you if
You'll help me with my plan,
You come running quickly
As you can.
When I fell ill you helped me out;
Asked nothing in return.
You simply had to
Lend a helping hand.
You share your homes and families
When you had precious little more.
And gave your love to me
A thousand score.
The memories and gratitude
Exceed what I can pay.
And all you say is,
"That's what friends are for."
All I hope is that I can be there
For you some day.
And yet I pray
You'll never want or need.
What you have given grows and
Thrives and blossoms from that seed.
All I can do is pass out freely
What you've given me.
Cuz, that's what friends are for.
