To You

In '59 I really heard it, for the first time
'Cuz all the other times I didn't hear.
But this time I "got" it,
It sounded so good to my ears.
The sound I heard was rock and roll.
I knew I had to have it with me ... All the time.
The sound I heard was music,
Music for my soul.

My folks thought I was crazy.
My guess is they weren't wrong
And secretly, I wrote another song.
And each time I found myself locked deep inside the song,
If no one knew then I could do no wrong.

Some think I'm crazy, 'cuz I'm doing what I am,
'Cuz all I am is what I do.
This song is for all of them, my family, my friends,
But most of all ... Right here, right now ... To you.

When I'm done here I'll go back to the mountain and write more,
Where no one's keeping track or keeping score.
So I'll just keep on keeping on, 'cuz that's just what I do.
I play my songs for all of them and you.

Another wandering minstrel ... Another troubadour
Another chance to take a chance and soar.
A point in time ... A history ... Another person's view
But most of all, right here, right now, ... To you
