The user can roam visually across a data set in any direction
and at any scale by moving the PROCOM-2 data carrier.
Thus, it is possible to obtain a
regional overview of the data
or to conduct directionally controlled traversing. Approximately
400 cm2 (e.g. a whole LANDSAT Scene) of transparency
can be
scanned at one time without repositioning the data
set.
The projection lenses of PROCOM-2 provide a range of magnifications
from 3X to 72X. Magnifications up to 140X can be obtained
with an optional lens.
Thus the projected data can be registered
to either local or regional detail on a map, interpretive overlay
or digitizing tablet. The zoom capability also
makes it easy
to instantly enlarge the projected image to study detail or
reduce it to confirm context. Reductions of the data can be
achieved by an
intermediate photographic step with no
significant loss of detail.
PROCOM-2's copy camera system will accept any 35 mm
camera with interchangeable lenses. This system enables
the user to photographically record the
projected image
and registrations.
The unique design of PROCOM-2 allows up to 4 or 5 interpreters
to simultaneously examine a projected image. The PROCOM-2
can be quickly adjusted to
project onto a wall or screen for
larger groups and yet retain its capabilities to magnify and
scan. This is particularly valuable for use in the classroom.
