Icons of Nordicity ©
" "Nordicity", a canadianism, is a wide concept developed in Canada from the 1960s that refers to the perceived, real or even imagined condition of high-latitude regions. It deals with a large variety of issues taken from both the natural and the human world that may lead to the combined understanding of facts, ideas and interventions of these northern lands" (The Canadian Encyclopaedia). Through my art, I tried to represent this concept of nordicity, that north in which I was raised and educated. The canoes, the pickup truck, the float plane, the car top, are only a few of these icons which will linger, there, for the rest of my life. Because I travel the world, these images will always be the reminders of who I am.

I am still painting, but I have to adapt to my times. I am working with emerging technologies, with new tools such as the digital camera, the computer and the relating software, just like Canaletto did his Venetian cityscapes with a man size camera obscura, Durer with his "drawing machines", and more recently Lichtenstein and Rosenquist with the slide projector. The talent of the artist will always remains in his capacity to arouse the beholder, to convince him or her to leave his or her reality to come into mine. This is the purpose of art.
