Canadian Interuniversity Sport and MiWorld Youth International of Ottawa, with generous support and funding from Human Resources Development Canada, Ontario Region, are happy to once again offer the World Sport Management Internship Program for 2003.

The World Sport Management Internship Program is made available to young Canadians seeking professional work-place experience in sport management. Through WSMIP, the CIS and MiWorld will provide participants with 6 month professional internships hosted by International amateur sport organizations, sport media enterprises and professional leagues and teams abroad. These Internships are offered to individuals presently seeking careers in sport management, administration and marketing.

Candidates for the WSMIP are Canadian citizens, graduates of Sport management, Commerce or related University/College programs, between the ages of 18-30, and are self-motivated and enthusiastic individuals.

 Applications for the WSMIP will be accepted throughout 2003 until all placements are filled.

1 Position - Operations and Marketing Internship.

The Geneva-Servette Hockey Club will be hosting a 6 month - 1 year Internship in their Operations and Marketing Department.  Includes promotions/community development, media relations and special programming, Human resource management, Game Day managment, facility liaison and Team Assistant Manager.

Language requirements: All candidates must be bilingual (French / English).

CIS and MiWorld are proud to announce a cooperative internship program with thFédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA). The World Sport Management Internship Program will be providing up-to 8 Project Officer internships in partnership with various FIFA Goal Programme Development Offices situated throughout the world.

Created in 1998 by FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter, the Goal Programme advances the development of soccer through specific projects meant to augment participation, infrastructure, community development and fair play within member states and national associations.

GOAL Recruiting Notice July 7, 2003:  General Recruiting

The WSMIP is now accepting applications for future consideration of candidacy to a GOAL placement and will continue to do so throughout July and August.

It is strongly suggested that all General applicants be bilingual in spanish or french.

It is an asset if General applicants are bilingual in other languages such as Russian, Arabic or Portuguese.

It is essential that all General applicants possess Management skills (both academic and employment related) that may include: finance/accounting, project management, international development, marketing and sponsorships, corporate and government communications, and public administration.

 


 

GOAL Recruiting Notice July 7, 2003:  Guatemala Goal Development Office

Location: Guatemala City, Guatemala

Positions: 2 Project Officers

Mandate: The FIFA Goal Development Office in Guatemala will host two WSMIP interns as Goal Project officers. WSMIP interns will work with the Goal Office Director and staff to manage and create future development programs with Central American member states such as Belize, Honduras, Panama and Mexico.

Required skills: Candidates should be creative, imaginative and have a marketing/communications background.  Duties will include proposal writing, administration, intergovernmental liaison, community programming and partnership development.

Required languages:  Fluency in Spanish (speaking fluent /read-write: moderate)

The World Sport Management Internships Program is sponsored by Human Resources Development Canada and is subject to the following terms and conditions:

Program Schedule:

Program recruiting for the World Sport Internships programme will be carried out throughout  2003.

All selections are made upon final approval by the intern host organization.

Placements:

Placements will begin throughout the spring and will be scheduled to coincide with group Briefings to be held in Ottawa prior to departure. Following an In-country orientation, participants will enter into their placements for a minimum six month period. At the completion of the work placement, participants will return and attend program debriefings and employment, re-entry programs in Toronto, throughout the Fall and Winter.

Funding:

Internships are funded through an award of $ 12,000.00 per individual for a minimum 6 month work experience abroad. From this award CIS/MiWorld will provide the following participant supports:

Return International Airfare - $ 1,200.00

In-Canada Travel (Briefing and Debriefing) - $ 500.00

Briefing, Debriefing, and Orientation Expenses - $400.00

A Monthly Salary - $ 1400.00 or $ 8,400 for the program

Note. As salary recipients, interns will be subject to federal income, CPP and Employment Insurance deductions.

Insurance - $ 200.00

Visas and Innoculations if required - $ 1200.00

Costs related to in-Canada travel and briefings and debriefings are to be shared and averaged according to the geographical location of the internship recipients.

IMPORTANT: Internship recipients should expect to contribute $ 2,000.00 of their own money for personal expenses not covered by the internship program (ie. holiday travel, shopping, etc.)

In-country and Work Place Orientation

MiWorld and the CIS will endeavor to provide day-to-day support and assistance to internship participants through on-line and telephone communication and, where possible, through local coordinators.

In most cases accommodation will have been previously selected for internship participants. Final selection of accommodation and orientation of interns to their living and work environments will take place over a 2 week period.

Individuals wishing to prepare an application for the World Sport Management Internship Program should possess:

A minimum of an undergraduate degree in sport / business administration or related field;

volunteer experiences that demonstrate a desire and ability to work in an international sport environment;

strong communication and organizational skills;

bilingualism and previous participation in interuniversity sport is an asset.

IMPORTANT: Candidates must be actively seeking immediate, full-time employment. The WSMIP does not provide co-op placements.

IMPORTANT: The WSMIP does not accept applications from new or recent graduates. Candidates must have completed school and be in the job market a minimum of 3 months in advance of making an application to the WSMIP.
