LINKS TO OTHER WEB SITES
Here are some of my favourite legal Web sites for your consideration (with editorial
commentary provided) . . .
Cecil Greek's Criminal justice Links
- http://www.criminology.fsu.edu/cj.html
- This is a topnotch directory of criminal justice resource sites across
the world. A definite starting place to conduct research or locate material
on a specific issue.
National Center on Institutions and Alternatives
- http://www.ncianet.org/ncia
- A leading advocate of alternatives to traditional incarceration. Its founding director, Jerome Miller, D.S.W., is much admired for his ground-breaking work in Massachusetts (closing training schools), and questioning our over-reliance on imprisonment.
Solicitor General of Canada
- http://www.sgc.gc.ca
- A good place to ascertain what the Government sees as "topical" criminal justice legislation or issues. Under the Corrections Branch, there is a list of good publications that can be downloaded.
Justice Department Canada
- http://canada.justice.gc.ca
- A definite stopping-off place to check the latest developments and press releases from the Attorney General's office.
Correctional Service of Canada
- http://www.csc-scc.gc.ca
- The federal prison industry's web site. Some interesting information about population projections and research publications. Much more revealing is a recent study of CSC by reporter Kevin Marron, titled "The Slammer: The Crisis in Canada's Prison System" (1996: Doubleday Canada).
Access to Justice Net
- http://www.acjnet.org
- A Canadian-based directory of web sites and search vehicles, including mostly Canadian databases. Partly financed by the Canadian Justice Department.
Parliament of Canada
- http://www.parl.gc.ca/36/main-e.htm
- One of the most interesting sites to follow legislation on criminal justice matters. Check out the Standing Committee on Justice and Legal Affairs of the House of Commons for their published hearings on various bills.
Prison Law Links
- http://www.prisonwall.org/links.htm
- An excellent source of information about prisons that combines both Industry
and critical perspectives, concentrating mostly on the historic problems
of prisons around the world.
