STREAMBEND
Welcome
to Streambend.
Pat
and Dick de St. Croix live in Rideau Township on a bend of Stevens
Creek. This stream joins the Rideau River at the nearby village of
Kars. Since the Rideau River flows into the Ottawa River and then
into the St. Lawrence River, it would be possible for us to put our
canoe into Stevens Creek and paddle to Ottawa or the Atlantic Ocean!
In the year 2001, Rideau Township became part of the City of Ottawa
with the largest area of any city in Canada.
Our
house, which we built in 1987, is on a beautiful five acre property
bordered by the creek on one side and farmland on the other. There is
a one kilometre mowed track which we ski on in the winter and run on
in the summer. The track winds around a pond inhabited by many
species of fish, turtles, frogs, muskrat, beaver and river otters.
The pond is also visited by ducks, geese, great blue herons,
kingfishers, swallows and the occasional green heron or bittern. We
also see the occasional fox, rabbit, deer, raccoon and groundhogs.
The
112 acre property across Stevens Creek is owned by our son Andy and
his wife Teddie who operate an equestrian centre with approximately
thirty horses. Each year Stevens Creek Farm stages a Nationally
Sanctioned Horse trial. Web address: www.stevenscreekfarm.ca
