Welcome to the Ottawa Chapter of VOICE

VOICE is an organization that provides support to parents of hearing impaired children through parent-to-parent communication, development of workshops on childhood hearing impairment and advocacy on behalf of parents and children. In addition, VOICE also provides Auditory Verbal Therapy to hearing impaired infants and children in outlying regions. VOICE also makes available to members various information resources and works to make the public more aware of childhood hearing impairment. For more information, click on  About Us.

Speaking of fund raising, we invite you to visit the home page of our annual golf tournament, where you will see the kinds of programs that our funds are used for. We would like to give special thanks to last year's sponsors for their support of this special event:

The VOICE Mission Statement

"To ensure that all hearing impaired children have the right to develop their ability to listen and speak and have access to services which will enable them to listen and speak."

VOICE offers hope, support and practical assistance to hearing impaired children and their parents. Through consultation and advocacy with governments and school boards, we speak for children with hearing impairments, so that they have the chance to speak for themselves. With support, early testing and identification of hearing impairment, early and appropriate use of hearing aids, early and intensive Auditory Verbal therapy, VOICE seeks to break the sound barrier by helping children learn to listen and to speak.

VOICE provides support to parents of hearing impaired children through parent-to-parent communication, development of workshops on childhood hearing impairment and advocacy on behalf of parents and children. In addition, VOICE also provides Auditory Verbal Therapy to hearing impaired infants and children in outlying regions. VOICE also makes available to members various information resources and works to make the public more aware of childhood hearing impairment.

The Auditory Verbal approach gives hearing impaired children the tools to develop speech and auditory skills. Auditory Verbal therapy operates on the principle that residual hearing is common to 95% of all hearing impaired children. By stimulating this hearing, children can develop spontaneous oral speech and language. Amplified sound helps children to learn to process sound and ultimately acquire auditory verbal communication.

Our experience with the Auditory Verbal therapy approach has taught us that through the dedication of parents no goals are beyond the reach of hearing impaired children.
