Vincent Black Shadow Racing entered it's "AMP-RAGE" electric racer in Electrathon 2001 at Capital City Speedway on June 2nd 2001. This event was organized by The Electric Vehicle Council of Ottawa (EVCO)

Race Stats:
A single heat were scheduled for 11:00.
The race started at noon only an hour late
the inspections took a little longer than expected
Seveneen Elecrathon Vehicles started
The AMP-RAGE was retrofitted with 4 motors all driving a single axle, pivited braking, and 2 new Exide PV-N22W gel cell deep cycle batteries. Our gearing allowed for a top speed of 42 kph and a 60 minute run time; it also allowed me to spin the tires in the pit. Ya its gravel there but I did spin the tires.
One of the four 1/4 horse power motors came loose after about 15 minutes It took 5 minutes to tighten it up and we were back in the race. A seat belt came undone and we needed a 30 second pitstop to attend to that. At about the 35 minute mark the AMP-RAGE started clanking and the driver smelled something cooking in the front end and suspected a broken front brake. On closer Inspection we discovered our 16 inch front wheel had the bearings completly burn out; we quickly changed the front wheel and were back in the race within a couple of minutes;
With 12 minute left on the clock our racer was down to 25 kph and the batteries were finally fading; we decided to take a 5 minute smoke break to let the batteries rest and recover some power. Back in the race with 7 minutes to go we picked up a bit of speed by the end of the race we didn't have enough power left to run an electric tooth brush.
Our total running time for this race was about 47 minutes what with the pitstops and smoke break. We completed 34 laps on the 3/8's of a mile track which was enough to win us the coveted 3rd place trophy and a substantial purse.
We drew over 120 amps accelerating from a stop.
We drew 40 to 60 amps at cruising speed
We were clocked at 40 kph by the Ottawa Carleton Police
but our top speed during the race was over 42 kph.
Power consumption was high with four motors this year; the batteries were completly drained but we were on the track and moving when the race was over.
The Black Shadow Racer was tuned to run for an hour but we now think that 3 is the magic number of motors to give us the speed and endurance we need.
Black Shadow is a private team not affiliated with any high school. We are self financed and operate on the SSB financial theory (Shoe String Budget). We participated in the Open Class of Vehicles and finished in 3rd place. EVCO presented us with the coveted 3rd place trophy, Certificate of Speed Achieved, and a substantial purse .

The trophy winning Vincent Black Shadow Racing team had a great time. The vehicle ran better than ever with only a motor comming looseand the front wheel bearing frying into nothing
