The Black Shadow Racer made its’ debut at The Great Electric Car Race at Queen’s University on the 27th of May 2000.

Race Stats:

Race started at 1:15

The Black Shadow Racers decided not to take the attention off the high school teams and waited until 3:00 to make their entrance.

In reality we had serious chain and sprocket problems for an hour and 45 minutes.

The Black Shadow racer zipped around the hilly 1.3 km track six times, a distance of 7.76 km. Our total running time for this race was 16 - 17 minutes.

We drew over 100 amps going uphill at speeds as low as 5 kph.
We drew virtually no amps going down hill at a top speed of 61 kph.
The Black Shadow's best speed was 77 kph achieved during early morning trials.

Power consumption was high on the hills but the batteries
retained a12.5v charge which is 90% of capacity.
No doubt the Black Shadow would have completed many more laps but for our technical problems which caused our late start.

Black Shadow is a private team not affiliated with any high school. We are self financed and operate on the SSB financial theory (Shoe String Budget). We participated by invitation as demonstration vehicle and as such were not eligible for prizes. Brian Perkins of the Great Electric Car Race presented us with the coveted Certificate of Distinctive Participation.

The Vincent Black Shadow Racing team had a great time. Sure we had a late start but when the vehicle finally did run it ran well passing most teams easily and we nearly doubled our land speed record now at 77 kph.
