The Dr. Janet G. Woititz A.C.O.A. (Adult Children of Alcoholics) Awareness Center
"The books and works of Dr. Janet G. Woititz - ACOA - Adult Children
of Alcoholics. This site has been created to provide a resource for those
who are interested in Dr. Janet Woititz's works in helping those impacted
by Alcoholism and other dysfunctional personal and family behaviors. This

Peace Group" in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
This is the website of our sister group, which meets on Tuesday evenings
in Ottawa. They were the first Ottawa group on the Web and their presence
provided some of the inspiration for this site.
Their group's homepage provides many useful links, including a good description of The Origins of ACA in the National Capital Region .

Serenity Renewal for Families
"Serenity Renewal for families is a registered non-profit
charitable organization dedicated to helping alcohol- and drug-dependent
individuals and their family members in a process of emotional and
spiritual recovery." As well as for the wide range of programs
it offers to the community and those in recovery, including its "New
Beginnings for Co-Dependents and/or Adult Children of Alcoholics"
program, Serenity Renewal is well known by local oldtimers for Louise Dunn
("Sister Louise"), who played a key role
in starting the ACoA program in the Ottawa area.

Royal Ottawa Health Care Group - ("R.O.H.") Addictions Program
The Addictions Program provides a continuum of care to persons dealing
with substance abuse. Identification, prevention, early intervention,
treatment and follow-up are provided at three different sites in the
Ottawa-Carleton region. The program promotes lifestyle change that will
allow clients to re-integrate into the community.

Co-dependency is a widely based and widely defined issue and the programs and therapies which exist to counter it take many forms. Here are other a few types of groups which address it from different perspectives.

CODEPENDENTS ANONYMOUS - Ottawa Area

12 step program for men and women having difficulty forming functional relationships. Members may have grown up in dysfunctional families, strict military or religious households, abusive homes or alcoholic homes. Behaviours learned there are carried over into present day relationships. Meetings are held on Mondays at St. Timothy’s Church (2400 Heron Rd.) at 7:30pm, Thursdays at McNabb Community Centre (180 Percy St.) at 12 noon and on Sundays at Holy Rosary Church (20 Grant St. near Parkdale) at 7:30pm.
Co-Dependents Anonymous Home Page
"Official site of Co-Dependents Anonymous (CoDA©) a 12 step
program of recovery. Co-Dependents Anonymous is a fellowship of men and
women whose common purpose is to develop healthy relationships. The only
requirement for membership is a desire for healthy and fulfilling
relationships. We rely on the Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions for
knowledge and wisdom. These are the principles of our program and guides
to developing honest and fulfilling relationships. Through applying the
Twelve Steps and principles in CoDA to our daily life and relationships,

self-defeating lifestyles and realize a new joy, acceptance and serenity

A.C.A./ACoA, by virtue of its roots, is part of a broader Twelve Step fellowship and many A.C.A.s enter the program only after dealing with other issues in these program. Understanding them can often provide a broader perspective on understanding ourselves.
